HOME INSPIRATION FROM A FLORIST

when i saw this post on miss moss i was amazed and loved it instantly. as much as i would like to think i am a neutral girl sometimes, it really cannot be denied - i love colour! so this industrial style shop filled with colourful flowers had me at the first image. this shop belongs to a mother-daughter florist combo in singapore and has been blogged by lilreddotfolks who capture the spaces of inspiring people.

what i love particularly about the space is that it is an aesthetic that is industrial, fun, and its a look that can be created inexpensively. just cos something is not expensive doesn't mean it looks drab. how bright and fun is this space!

image: lilreddotfolks via miss moss
the image above is a great one. warm lighting with wall-mounted crates and a chalkboard painted island. crates like this can be obtained from local wine shops that sell expensive wine. quite often they have no use for them so you can pick them up without breaking the bank. alternatively if you cannot source them, you can make them! they are not complicated and could be made quite simply. the chalkboard island could be done with an old piece of furniture you already have or one that you pick up on the side of the road that needs a revamp. put on a lick of paint, replace the handles and bang! an industrial style funky storage unit!

again a super simple yet effective aesthetic. plywood panels with chalk writing and a ladder. both very easily obtained without breaking the bank. and the best thing about chalk - you can change it up depending on your mood or the season!

more cute details. step ladder is an ikea buy, vintage crates can be purchased on ebay (old fruit crates etc.) or you could stain some wine boxes if you have any left over from your wall unit above.

metal screen with plants! love! industrial and fresh! and there is that ikea stepladder and a crate. such an effective aesthetic and yet not a complicated one!

type can transform a space to something 'wow'. kat teutsch is a food/still life/interiors photographer that has captured these spaces and vignette's beautifully. the black and white type in each of these images creates a statement, whether it be the focal point of the image or a strong background. it gives an industrial and vintage edge to each of the images. do you like it?

SIMPLE BEDROOM

image: 79 ideas
i really like this bedroom but what captured me the most was the simplicity. no fancy bed or bedside tables or pictures on the wall yet it is still warm, cozy and personal. its surprising how much can be achieved so simply!

COZY WORKSPACE

image: design traveller
wouldn't you love a workspace like this? the sheepskin tops it off in making it look soooo cozy! other cute details that i love include the industrial style lamp, the string with pegs for things that are inspiring at that point in time, the textured wallpaper and the green plant (every space needs something living!). the timber and natural light is also critical in this image to give it the warmth.

FRENCH STYLE KITCHEN

image: daily dream decor
i LOVE this french style eat in kitchen! i think it is the combination of the following that draws me in:

1. The tiled floor. the tiling on the floor is a beautiful pattern but it works in this space because the other surfaces are not patterned so the whole image doesn't become overwhelming. The subtlety in the colours is nice as well - the same colour blue is picked up in the vase on the table and the bowl on the benchtop. This subtlety prevents the space being overwhelming with colour which it could be if the colours were loud and the tolix chairs were still teal.

2. The industrial details. In case you haven't picked up on this so far, i love a nice industrial detail in a space. I like the strong statement of the black pendant light and the vintage worn teal chairs but again they are not overwhelming as they are balanced by the white in the cabinetry and the walls.

3. The lightness. This is a combination of the beautiful natural light streaming in from the window, but also in the furniture. The steel legged dining table is beautifully detailed but doesn't sit heavily in the room.

4. The details generally. The brackets under the cabinetry, the ladder style bookcase, the open shelves near the window, the horse on the windowsill, a timber frame on the picture on the wall and the planter on the windowsill. it is the details that make a space but also reveal a little about the occupier of the space.

Essentially i love pretty much every component in this space and how they work together and have a balance. What do you think?

INDUSTRIAL & COMPACT LOUNGE

image: ryan mat
sorry i haven't posted the last couple of days. i am now back with some more posts!! the combination of neutrals in this space is lovely, and i like the collection of personal things...it doesn't feel sterile or impersonal. it is filled with that persons things they have collected over time which is what truly makes a home.

A FEW SNAPS FROM ANNABELLE KERSLAKE'S

annabelle's home was recently featured on design*sponge. she is half of fete magazine which is a beautiful lifestyle magazine. this house has such a lovely collection of different things spanning several more traditional 'styles'...very eclectic. some of the details i particularly love are the industrial lights, the timber to bring warmth to spaces and the fine line style of images on the linen, cushions etc.
image: design sponge
a mix of mid-century furniture with industrial lighting and fine prints...
image: design sponge
sheepskin for softness, black and white detailed cushion, bold freehand cross and an orchid (i really would like one of those orchids!)

feminine details in the bedroom mixed with an industrial style lamp...

FRESH WHITE BEDROOM

image: bolig
i really like this bedroom. the use of the windows between the robe and the main space create a point of visual interest but don't overwhelm the space. you would have to keep the wardrobe relatively tidy though! i also really like the clamp lights on the shelf behind the bed that turn the vibe of the room into a slightly industrial direction, without being too overwhelming. the light floor works well with the clamp lights and the wardrobe being enough contrast to prevent the room being too starkly white.

the trunk and the plant on the windowsill top off this image nicely.

HOUSE DOCTOR SPRING 2013 INSPIRATION

i stumbled across 'house doctor' while perusing the decor8 blog and i love it. industrial details, type, bell jars, timber tabletops...whats not to love? unfortunately they don't have any dealers in australia but the images are lovely anyway! they have heaps of lovely things for the home, including furniture, home decor, linen, accessories, lighting etc.

image: decor8
who doesn't love a wire basket?
image: decor8
upholstered bed, type prints on the cushions, throws, wire basket with a demijohn, pendant lights with exposed globes. i love how the upholstered bedhead and the cushions and throws soften the industrial look so it is more cozy.

ELEPHANT & VINTAGE

image: sf girl by the bay
the detail in this black and white picture combined with the vintage storage is a lovely combination. the additions of the chair, light, crucifix and the wall framing complete the industrial look of this image. i like that while it is a finished image/interior it isn't a perfect unlived in look.

LIGHT AND BRIGHT AND POP!

image: vintage

image: las cositas de beach & eau
i love that this space is bright and light, but not devoid of colour. the pops of colour liven up the spaces, without being over the top. i also love the details - the industrial style framing of the couch, the string and scissors artwork, the lights, the old picture frame, the shelf in the dining area and the painted floor. and of course, no picture is complete without some greenery!
