CHRISTMAS AT 6A # 2

the people who know me know that i love christmas. one of my joys each year is to, after i've convinced my husband that we should have a real tree again, put up and decorate our tree. adrian's contribution to decorating the tree this year was putting the star on top at the end which means we decorated the tree together, right?

presents this year are in the usual kraft paper, but this year are tied with twine and then the gold bunting goes on. the recipients name is stamped with individual letters to the left of the tied twine. i hope you like them!

MAP & HOOKS

image: pottery barn
i love the map and hooks together for an entryway idea! the map wall decal is available from pottery barn, and an array of hooks will be available at your local hardware store.

WORKROOM MIRROR

image: design*sponge
the mantle in this image is quite formal, but i love how the decor keeps it formal-ish but it also makes it less formal, particularly the framed 'ah' and 'ha' - the mantle is literally laughing at you! i particularly love the mirror. the one in the image is a fisheye mirror which i haven't found, but i have found the ones below at peter rabbit limited. i do love colour so i think i would inevitably end up with colour somewhere, but i think jamie lyn & jessica fowler have styled it beautifully (see this design sponge post for how to get the look).

ELEPHANT & VINTAGE

image: sf girl by the bay
the detail in this black and white picture combined with the vintage storage is a lovely combination. the additions of the chair, light, crucifix and the wall framing complete the industrial look of this image. i like that while it is a finished image/interior it isn't a perfect unlived in look.

CHRISTMAS AT 6A # 1

some christmas details from around my house. these ornaments are made with fimo which has been cut out using a cookie/scone cutter and rubber stamps to make the imprint.

VINTAGE & WHITE

image: bolig pluss
the old school map has such charm. i love it combined with the shutter, chandelier, wire chair with the sheepskin and the vintage trunk. it creates a cozy vintage feel that i could spend all day reading a book in!

HOME OF JESSICA BETTENAY

images: the design files
this is the home of jessica bettenay and family as seen on 'the design files'.

i love the rich tone of the walls in the bathroom combined with the timber, the check floor and the white linen and vase.

image: the design files
i love the teepee and the windows, and the little rattan chair.

the light in the dining room is beautiful. i love the dark wood framing, the timber and metal dining set and the union jack. the flowers in the enamel pitcher are a lovely finishing touch and complete the image. the cushion in the corner is also a nice detail.

ROME # i

i love the disorder in rome that can be seen in the streetscape. while the traffic seemed similar to paris, the buildings in paris conveyed more of a sense of order and consistency which was not as clear in rome. i loved the shutters being different at every window with some open, some closed and others in between. i loved the different colours, the street lights, the details in the buildings, the pictures of mary on street corners and the strings of lights and flags.

LIGHT AND BRIGHT AND POP!

image: vintage

image: las cositas de beach & eau
i love that this space is bright and light, but not devoid of colour. the pops of colour liven up the spaces, without being over the top. i also love the details - the industrial style framing of the couch, the string and scissors artwork, the lights, the old picture frame, the shelf in the dining area and the painted floor. and of course, no picture is complete without some greenery!

VINTAGE MAPS

image: ship & anchor
there is something about old school (literally!) maps, rolled up with the rusted metal clasp and the duck egg blue of the water. i also love the line quality in maps and plans (that would be where my architecture study comes in) and the idea of scale, line, type and numbers all rolled into one.

PARIS # i

one of the things that struck me about paris when i was fortunate enough to visit in 2011 was that while the streets were chaos (i don't know how anyone drives in that city without having a car accident!) the buildings were ordered...they were all the same height, colour and style. the consistency in these things stood out for me and was something i didn't identify in the same way in the other cities we visited. more on my impression of paris later...

i love this coffee table by bodie and fou...but i also love this image with the texture in the wall and the lamp stand, and the colour in the pillow and vase.

Neutrals and light and cast iron bed and orchid and open shelf timber chairs and industrial details.

MUSHROOMS

Who doesn't love a bright red mushroom with white spots. They are so pretty and cute! These pictures were taken on a trip to Kurrajong north west of Sydney one weekend with some very dear friends. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Post No.1

So...post number 1. How exciting! This blog is intended (we'll see what it actually ends up being!) to be a place where I can share all the things I find that inspire me and what I am working on.

My current focus for my space time is designing a range of fabric that is based on some of the cities Adrian and I visited on our trip to Europe. So far I have started designs inspired by Paris, Venice and Rome.

I hope you enjoy the ride, and thanks for stopping by and coming along with me!
